Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz expected out 3-4 weeks; RB Miles Sanders likely out vs. Giants

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is expected to miss three to four weeks with an ankle injury, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Monday.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Ertz suffered a high ankle sprain.

Sources told Mortensen that the Eagles are also expected to be without running back Miles Sanders for Thursday's game against the New York Giants because of a knee injury.

Both players were injured during Sunday's 30-28 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Ertz tried to reenter the game after initially injuring his ankle and having it taped, but he pulled up while running a route in the fourth quarter and was unable to finish. Sanders was hurt on his 74-yard run in the third quarter when he was tackled from behind by DeShon Elliott. He left the game and did not return.

During his media availability Monday, coach Doug Pederson said he did not have any update on Ertz or Sanders but that he expected to have more information later in the day.

The Eagles should be getting some reinforcements soon. Wide receivers Alshon Jeffery (Lisfranc) and DeSean Jackson (hamstring) have been practicing in a limited capacity the past couple of weeks. Pederson said he was "optimistic" about their availability. Jackson is expected to play Thursday against the Giants, according to Schefter.

Right tackle Lane Johnson continues to deal with an ankle issue, putting his status up in the air. His replacement Sunday, rookie Jack Driscoll, left the Ravens game with an ankle injury of his own, furthering the uncertainty around the Eagles' offensive line. Center Jason Kelce was the only member of the original offensive line to play Sunday.

Right guard Matt Pryor missed the game after being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list after being in close contact with someone who tested positive. The Eagles hope he will be available for the Giants game, though the short week will make it tough to give him enough practice reps to be able to start, Pederson said. Jamon Brown and Sua Opeta are two of the top options to replace him.

Only two members of the Eagles' original starting offense, Carson Wentz and Kelce, were on the field to finish Sunday's game.

Ertz, a Pro Bowler each of the past three seasons, has 24 catches for 178 yards and a touchdown in 2020.

Sanders leads the Eagles with 434 rushing yards on 71 carries with three rushing touchdowns.

Pederson said the Eagles would likely use a running-back-by-committee approach if Sanders is unavailable to play.
