China science, technology news summary -- May 15

BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

METABOLITE AGAINST SARS-COV-2

Chinese researchers have identified a glucose-like metabolite associated with diabetes in human blood with effective antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2. The findings, led by researchers from Tsinghua University, were published in the journal Nature Metabolism.

In this new study, researchers screened out more than 200 small-molecule metabolites and found that 1,5-anhydro-D-glucitol (1,5-AG), which is deficient in patients with diabetes, can inhibit cellular entry of SARS-CoV-2.

MAIDEN TEST FLIGHT BY C919

The first C919 large passenger aircraft to be delivered completed a successful maiden test flight on Saturday, according to the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China.

China's indigenously-developed jet, coded B-001J, took off at 6:52 a.m. from Shanghai Pudong International Airport and landed at the same site at 9:54 a.m.

During the flight that lasted three hours and two minutes, pilots and engineers coordinated to complete all designed operations, and the plane was in good condition.

ANIMAL SCIENCE BOOK

China has published its first popular science reading on experimental animals.

After consulting and verifying numerous relevant literature and cutting-edge sci-tech achievements, the authors used poetry and paintings to summarize the scientific knowledge on domestication, evolution, cultivation and quality standardization of experimental animals in this book.
