State and local officials gathered near the sight of the future Titan Gateway Pedestrian Bridge to honor those who supported the recent $2 million state budget allocation for the bridge and the Fullerton Arboretum.

Assemblyman Phillip Chen, a CSUF alum (B.A., communications) who represents the 55th district, commemorated the state allocation with a presentation of a $1 million check to CSUF President Fram Virjee. The funds will support the university’s 26-acre arboretum and several rehabilitation, signage, and repair projects.

“Critical to the funding for the pedestrian bridge were State Assembly Member Phillip Chen and State Senator Josh Newman who requested and advocated on the behalf of the university,” Virjee said in a release. Speaker of the Assembly Anthony Rendon also was critical to securing the funding, Virjee said.

Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee, Congresswoman Young Kim, Fullerton Mayor Bruce Whitaker and Fullerton Councilmember Jesus Silva also attended the ceremony, which took place on Sept. 17 in front of Langsdorf Hall.
